Bugbane Chocoholic

Other wise know as; Actaea, Cimifuga, Snakeroot or Bugbane
Love this fairly new variety.  Although it does emerge green ‘Chocoholic’  can offer deep purple-black foliage.  Bugbane is a plant that does like shade, but too much and the dark chocolaty colour will green out. So a very high, dappled shade into bright am sunlight suits best.  From late spring to late summer, its dark hue makes a wonderful backdrop for colorful foliage and flowering shade plants. In fall, fragrant, white turning to light pink colored flowers appear on tall, wand-like stems that remind me of candelabras.   Provide moist, fertile soil rich in organic matter in partial shade.  Great companion to Hosta   Also a great plant in a woodland setting with ferns etc.  Blooms in late summer early fall.  We love using them instead of Japanese Maples for the same cut leaves and colourful foliage.   Way easier to take care of.  Zone 5
