A few of the common questions asked;

Ordering;
How early can I order for spring shipments?

If you are on my email list I send out an email letting you know usually some time in Dec/Jan when the web site is up to date for current year.  Then you can place your order - I  reserve your selections and allow you to make out a post dated cheque.

When do your start shipping and how long in the season?

It really depends on Mother Nature - I do not ship dormant plants.  So I have to wait until they are up enough and have started to grow.  Usually early May.  How late - mid September but I do not ship in July and Aug as it is so busy here with Hosta Fest - Daylilies in Bloom in July and Aug usually to hot and dry.

So if I order early May when would I get my order.  I live in BC?

I ship out first orders in first out - so as soon as I get Jan- April orders out.  Order earlier if you can.

What if the weather turns cold and you planned on shipping to me and now it is too early?

Just email me and say hold my order.  I will ship it when you are ready.

So I can come and visit your gardens?

Yes,  hours and directions are on the Contact page.

Do you have end of the season specials?

I try to start with lowest prices at the start of the season.  If I do specials they are emailed out periodically and
updated on the special page.

Do you do talks to garden clubs or allow groups to come and tour?

Yes, just contact me in advance and I can give you details etc.  I can do talks on various gardening with perennial areas.
Buses welcome as well.

Hosta:

How much sun can a Hosta ‘tolerate’?
Hosta are for part shade.  Full sun all day am-pm discolours there foliage and by August you will likely see burn marks on the edges.
I am about low maintenance gardening and prefer not watering a few times a week – I prefer them in Part Shade.

What is part Shade?
Gardens facing East, North or South or West with protection (Like a tree, fence or House?)

What about Slug/snails?
Yes, when you see holes this is them that does the damage.  I use household ammonia and water.  1 part amoina/10 parts water and spray the whole plant after the sun goes down.  At least 3 times and you can start as early as May each year.

Soil prep when planting?
Mix the dirt in the pots from the nursery with yours and if you have compost add it now.  Spread the roots over a hill in the bottom of the hole and back fill with the mixed dirt.  Water in.

How often to water them?
If it doesn’t rain I would a good watering once a week.  Especially first season.  Depending on you soil/garden site maybe more.

How should I choose?
I would suggest mixing heights, textures of leaves, colour and shape.  Set them down and see how the look together.  Heights are on most of the tags.  If you let us know your budget and space we can help – just ask.
